On March 11, fashion enthusiasts and Mirage supporters gathered in the Media Innovation Center for Mirage Magazine’s first fashion show. The show displayed three up-and-coming brands; Ooh Baby, Le Corna Apparel and Mountain State Thrifts. Pizza, cupcakes and other snacks were served and t-shirts and art prints were sold. Designs were modeled by WVU students and a pop-up shop featuring items from the designers was held after the show.

Ooh Baby

Anika Ignozzi, the Pittsburgh-native, behind Ooh Baby describes herself as, “a 22-year-old with a sewing machine, paintbrush and most importantly, a passion for art and design.” She describes her work as, “art that you can feel and be immersed in.” Her designs include a variety of brightly colored, textured and hand-painted items.

Le Corna Apparel

Le Corna Apparel is owned by Victoria Carvelli. For the show, Carvelli created bohemian, fairy-inspired designs complete with barefoot sandals and wings. She describes her items as, “Pre-loved fashion apparel hand-selected and altered with love, you and the earth in mind.” Her shop, which has been open for two months, is located in Hometown Marketplace in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Mountain State Thrifts

Mountain State Thrifts is a thrift shop operated through Instagram by Alexandra Holscaw, a freshman at WVU. Since Holscaw started her shop last summer, she has sold over 250 items. Her line-up for the show focused on thrifted, vintage items, including 80’s windbreakers and 90’s inspired graphic t-shirts.

The fashion show was held as a fundraiser for the magazine and spoilers for the theme of this semester’s production were sprinkled throughout the show. The turnout was better than expected and there will more-than-likely be another fashion show next year. Paris Fashion Week has nothing on Mirage Magazine!
