When everyone thought Campus Movie Fest (CMF) wouldn’t return to West Virginia University, Jeffrey Boggess, president of the WVU Film Club, stepped in. Boggess took it upon himself to coordinate funding from the Reed College of Media and Arts & Entertainment to bring CMF back to campus (read more this process in this piece from the Daily Athenaeum).

“I considered it a priority to bring CMF back to WVU because of just how great of an opportunity it is to WVU students,” Boggess said. “The organization has the reputation and advertising effort to wrangle students across campus, and it offers real incentives and equipment that encourages and allows students to participate. No other opportunity like this is available at WVU.”

CMF came to WVU the week of February 23 to kickstart students’ one-week filmmaking journey with an information social at the Media Innovation Center. The official launch of the event occurred on February 26 where participating students could sign up and rent equipment for free. Following the launch, students had one week to create a short film of their own. The premiere of the event occurred on March 5 in the Mountainlair Ballrooms, where attendees could watch the short films, take photos on a red carpet and enjoy light refreshments.
Film Club was deeply engrained in this process: its members championed CMF around campus leading up to its launch, participated in the event and represent all four of CMF’s winning pieces (see below). Boggess also served as CMF’s campus connection, assisting the team in organizing promotional and event locations.
Film Club is one of the few spaces on campus to offer consistent opportunities for WVU students to pursue their filmmaking interests. Follow them @WVUFilmClub.
